The United Nations recently announced that 100 million more people this year are in a daily struggle against malnutrition. 100 million people. If that number of people were grouped together, it would form the 12th largest country in the world--just behind Mexico and in front of the Philippines.
Quoting from Wired PR News:
Josette Sheeran of the Rome based U.N. agency, the World Food Program,
is further quoted by the AP as stating, “A hungry world is a dangerous
world… Without food, people have only three options: They riot, they
emigrate or they die. None of these are acceptable options.”
Hunger, of course, has been on the rise in the US over the last year or
two, with food banks reporting great rises in the demand or their
services.
